Until You can be honest, nothing is real. We all lie at some point in time. We can lie about small things or big things. We can lie about important things or meaningless things. We can lie for the sake of saving another person pain and we can lie to cause pain. We can lie to others and we can lie to ourselves.
We are all human. We are all flawed. Lying is not a trait that is well looked upon. It is a disappointing quality. How many times are we lied to on a daily basis? How many times does a particular person lie to you over and over? What is your response? I recently watched a video about lying and manipulation. This video talked about the passivity of “accepting” a lie. When we listen to a lie and say nothing we are allowing the Lie to become a type of truth. We give the liar a pass saying that we “believe” them because we do nothing to let them understand that lying is unacceptable.
I have been lied to. I had people in my life that lied habitually. I grew to think that when they spoke they were simply lying. After seeing this video I began to wonder if I had in some way enabled these people to continue their behavior. The thing was that they were “grown” adults who some of which were in their 50s. For the most part they were who they were and there would be little that could happen to change that.
I have lied at times. I have been dishonest. Does that make me the same as the others who lied constantly and about important matters? Where is the difference and where do we draw the line?
