Being good is NOT the absence of bad. Being good is the action of doing good deeds.
To be good, one must do good things.
To be bad, one must care nothing at all about being good.
Good asks more of us by simply asking for action.
Bad exists in inaction.
Inaction isn’t always bad, but bad can take root when nothing good happens.
Speaking is not action. It lays a foundation for action to have the potential to exist.
Speaking makes the soil ready, but seeds must still be planted.
Many equate vocality, with good.
But saying what is bad does not mean you stand in the way of bad being done.
I’ve seen many online speak aloud, but in the face of those who would even just speak harm, they say nothing. They do nothing.
I have been beaten, abused, belittled, and destroyed in the presence of “good” people who didn’t speak for me when I needed it.
Good is deeds.
It requires.
It expects.
It seeks repetition to establish patterns.
Bad cares not what we do, in fact, doing isn’t encouraged.
Bad can be nothing and something.
Bad can exist even when good is suggested, or discussed.
Too many think goodness is a state of static being.
Many believe they must simply be good in their hearts, but we cannot see your heart.
We see what you do.
I may not share my thoughts on goodness online, but I do try to enact goodness in the worlds where I walk.
I don’t keep count, but if we did, could you count the good actions you’ve done this year? This month? This week?
Today?
Being good is doing good.
