Real storysharing starts at consent.
We don’t always think about the decisions that happen along the storysharing journey, because let’s face it, most of us don’t see it as a journey. But for those of us who share, over and over and more times than we could count, it’s THE journey to finding new ways of looking at this thing that was outside of our control.
We take control when we apply strategies and when we realize that sharing isn’t always caring. Storysharing is intentional and moves beyond a limited view into a central part of our identities. We grow from sharing, but just as we can grow, we can also be stunted.
The work I’ve been doing exploring what happens isn’t over, but already I have learned so much about how we take stories and use the people who hold them as though they are temporary vessels.
We are not vessels, we are the owners, the creators, the recreators of the very stories we choose to share. The word we should always focus on is “choose”. The story is yours, refine it so it helps you grow and never leaves you harmed.
