Summit eyes struggles of area veterans

At the 2017 Veterans’ Summit, I had the privilege of being the keynote speaker, sharing my personal story of how my father’s personal and professional struggles as a military veteran led to his death by suicide and how it left me devastated for many years. I also shared how my experience led me to become a volunteer, helping others, including veterans and their families, cope with mental health challenges.

The Veterans’ Summit reminded us that we all have a role to play in supporting our veterans and that mental health is just as important as physical health. My story is one of many, but it’s a testament to the power of shared experiences and connectedness. Through volunteering and advocating for mental health resources for veterans, I’ve found a sense of purpose and healing that I never thought was possible.

I hope others seek help and support and understand they are not alone in their struggles.
